Suaeda australis Southern Seablite is an edible species of the Goosefoot family Chenopodiaceae. Photographed here on the banks of Carlton River Tasmania, this species has a seemingly limited distribution in the salty marshes and muddy riverbanks of southern Australia. The fresh new leaves and young stems are edible and palatable, even when eaten straight from the coastal bush. The flavor and texture is refreshing with a hint of salt and we add the succulent leaves fresh to salads, add them to stir fries last-minute or wilt for a garnish.
