Leucopogon parviflorus/Coastal Bearded-Heath is an edible plant species from the Epacridaceae or Heath family with a common distribution on the sandy coasts of Australia and New Zealand. The white berries are edible and they offer a refreshing, juicy, lemony snack and we enjoy picking and eating the berries whilst walking back from the beach. As with most of the heaths, this fruit contains a hard seed which is easy to spit out as you walk or can be removed from bulk berries by pressing through a fine sieve. The juicy fruit really helps relieve our dry salty mouths after a swim! The sea birds love them too and are often seen hovering around the plant pecking at the currants or snacking on the currants from the ground.
