Eucalyptus gunnii / Tasmanian Cider Gum is an endemic Tasmanian plant species from the Myrtaceae family and with a distribution in the central highlands. In mature trees the trunk bleeds a naturally-fermenting and intoxicating sap whilst in season for 8 weeks each year! The foliage is highly sought by florists and is pretty in a vase. Photographed today in my garden I’m hoping this cider gum matures in time for my retirement or the next lockdown, we are very lucky here in Tasmania atm though. Shaun and I were very lucky recently not to get bitten by this deadly Tiger snake, only 3 steps into our bushwalk also, much to my horror! Take care xx
