Exocarpos cupressiformis

Exocarpos cupressiformis/Christmas Berry/Native Cherry is an edible species from the Santalaceae/Sandalwood family. This parasitic plant has a distribution in eucalypt forests through south-east Australia and is photographed here on a bush block in Forcett. The edible fruits are usually red with a green seed on the outside and we enjoy pairing the fruit with cheese or eating fresh from the tree whilst bushwalking.
