Viola hederacea, the Ivyleaf Violet, is an edible species of the Violaceae family with a common and widespread distribution in Tasmania and some other Australian states. This plant species prefers a low-lying shady habitat but is hardy in most natural and garden situations, pictured below growing in the full sun and a shady position in my garden. The pretty flowers are edible with a mild sweet flavor and we pick the flowers to garnish sweet and savory foods that are served chilled or at room temperature.
